Akvarij Piran

Villa Piranesi is located next to the old mandrake in Piran, in which Aquarium Piran - Pirano has had its premises for more than forty years. In 2009, the Piran Aquarium got a new look and modern equipment.

Twenty-five pools are installed in the new and larger rooms, which are illuminated by artificial light. The lighting system includes the "Type T5" bulb and HQI metahalogen lamps of different power and temperature colors. In this way, marine organisms are shown in as natural colors as possible. Aquarium vessels come in different dimensions and volumes for a better presentation of organisms.

• 8 pools with a volume of 2,000 – 3,500 liters
• 1 hexagonal pool x 5,250 liters
• 1 pool x 6,000 liters
• 1 pool x 10,500 liters
• 1 octagonal pool x 11,000 liters
• 1 stone pool x 1,100 liters

The total volume of pools per tour is = 60,000 liters (60 m3)

In the service area, there is also a reception basin in which organisms and animals are placed after catching, with the aim of having the veterinarian check for possible injuries, the presence of pests or diseases. There is also a quarantine glass pool, which is equipped with a mechanical and Biloški filter, a foaming plant, UV sterilization rays and a refrigerator.

Due to the lack of space, the aquarium water is purified by a larger sand filter, in combination with a sterilizer - (UV rays) and a foaming agent to which ozone is added. There is also the possibility of using a fifty-liter container with activated carbon.

To regulate the temperature of the aquarium water, we use two refrigerators installed on the attic balcony. In the event of a power failure, the electric generator is switched on, which ensures the smooth operation of the entire system. In case of pump failure, an air blower is used to enrich the water with oxygen.

In the new Piran aquarium, we also have the option of pumping fresh sea water, which we use to clean the sand filter, to replace lost water during normal maintenance and twice a week, depending on weather conditions, we exchange one tenth of the aquarium water with fresh sea water water. We are pleased to note that this system and way of working also suits marine organisms, as all our organisms are healthy and feel good, even though they are in captivity.
