Muzej Vrbovec

The museum shows the forestry and woodworking tradition, with which the people of the Upper Savinja Valley were strongly connected.

The introductory part is dedicated to forestry. The visitor learns about the development of forests through the geological age, learns about the peculiarities and attractions of forests and trees in Slovenia and around the world.

The central part of the museum shows the path of cut wood, from felling to processing into a finished product. The exhibition takes us back to the time of the olecars, carters, sawmills, carpenters, carpenters and rafters; at a time when, instead of the hum of chainsaws and trucks, the snapping of sekits and the thaw of horse hooves could be heard; To a time when life went significantly differently than today.

History
For many years, the desire to protect and present cultural heritage from the fields of forestry and woodworking lived among the local population and the professional institutions of the Upper Savinja Valley. These are industries that represented the main source of income and thus the survival of most people in the area. The long-standing idea began to be implemented in 1999, when the municipality of Nazarje began to think intensively about the establishment of a public institution to carry out museum activities. In the same year, a conceptual project was created, and in February 2000, the Vrbovec Museum - a museum of forestry and woodworking was established by the decision of the municipal council, which took care of the protection of the movable cultural heritage of forestry and woodworking.

The extensive recording and collection of information and materials on the ground was followed by the installation of a permanent exhibition, with which the museum opened its doors to its visitors in September 2001. Today, the museum's naturalistic and cultural learning trail Monastery Hill and collections in Bohačev Toplar also fall under the auspices of the museum.
