The north-east is distinctly flat with fields, meadows, forests of small areas and with larger solidified settlements and a south-western distinctly hilly area with vineyards, forests and scattered settlements. The municipality covers 107 km2 and includes 44 settlements. The most important economic activities of the Municipality of Ljutomer are: agriculture, viticulture, food processing, textile and wood-processing industry, trade and the service sector.
