The Pivka Military History Park is a new and rapidly developing museum tourist center. With the variety of exhibits and the wealth of collections, it brings visitors a unique insight into both national and world history. The mission of the Military History Park is to design a varied tourist center based on the rich military-historical heritage of this area, which is dedicated to education, research and unique experiences. The operation of the park is aimed at the development of new content and the constant addition of collections of exhibits with attractive acquisitions. The Military History Park is thus becoming a modern museum complex with attractive collections and interactive content and diverse accompanying activities, which are a valuable and invaluable memory of the past and a vivid and unique teaching aid. Today, the Military History Park is the largest museum complex in the Republic of Slovenia and is also one of the most visited Slovenian museums, which was visited by over 58,650 visitors in 2019. With the Military History Park project, Pivka managed to establish a tourist attraction that completely eliminates the long-standing development deficit in the local community, which was completely disabled in the field of tourism due to the presence of the army and due to various military activities. Other tourism providers in the area are also relying on the rapid and successful development of the park, which are strengthening their capacities due to the increased tourist offer. The offer of the park has significantly enriched and enriched the tourist offer in the Primorje-Notranjska region, which is particularly distinguished by its cave and other natural beauties. From a national point of view, it is important that the Republic of Slovenia, with its military history park complex, got a decent military-historical museum collection, which represents the standards of a classic country, also one of the attributes of statehood. Last but not least, with the exhibition Path to Independence, which represents the main exhibition of the Military History Park, Slovenia also got the only permanent exhibition dedicated to the independence events and the war for the defense of Slovenian independence in 1991. The positive result of the Military History Park is also that it managed to save it from the destruction of an extremely large number of exhibits of military technical heritage from different historical periods. The park's collection is distinguished mainly by very large exhibits, such as various military vehicles, especially tanks and other armored vehicles, airplanes, a submarine and finally a military locomotive from the Second World War. The park team, despite the fact that it is not yet placed in the national museum network and largely supports itself on the market, actively researches and publishes a lot, and above all takes care of presenting the national military-historical heritage by setting up museum exhibitions. As befits a modern museum center, the park also has a richly stocked museum shop and the Kantina museum restaurant. The park also manages a complex of hiking trails and an underground fort on Primož. With more than 500 m of underground tunnels and other tourist infrastructure, the fort from the Rapal border represents an important tourist attraction. In 2004, over EUR 10 million was invested in the Military History Park project from the very idea. The municipality of Pivka obtained the vast majority of the invested funds from various EU funds, and the key to the development of the park was the cohesion operation Comprehensive arrangement of the Military History Park complex (phases 1 and 2) with a total value of EUR 5,667,087.00, for which it is European The fund for regional development contributed just under 4 million euros. The Military History Park is managed by the Public Institute for Heritage Management and Tourism Pivka, the founder of which is the Municipality of Pivka.
