Mine Mežica In the mine, the methods of mining and mining equipment that miners used in different historical periods are presented, from the beginnings 340 years ago to the last days of mining in the past century. The journey to the tourist mine begins when the visitors, properly equipped, sit down in authentic cave carts, in which they drive along the 3.5 km long Glančnik tunnel to the Moring area. At the Moring stop, visitors get off the train and set off on foot along the 1.5 km long route. On this route, many exhibits are exhibited, and the premises are arranged as if the miners had just left them. A real attraction is the cycling route that takes the underground of Peca! Visitors can transport it accompanied by a guide. With a bicycle to the underground of Peca, accompanied by a guide and the light of headlamps, you can safely cycle more than five kilometers of the unique underground route from one valley to another and experience an unforgettable adventure. For more than three hundred years, miners mined lead and zinc ore under Mount Peca. In all these years, more than 800 kilometers of tunnels have been excavated. Most of the tunnels were dug up by the miners in hard rock, and the ore and tailings were taken from the mine with carts on numerous transport routes. Today, this unique, more than five kilometer long cycle path runs through one such tunnel. The path runs through safe tunnels and rises only by about 15 meters. But the hollows and humps of the former railway sleepers do not allow for leisurely cycling. The most suitable starting point for this adventure is the Mining Museum in Mežica (500 m.a.s.l.), where a guide with the necessary equipment will be waiting for you. From there you will drive to the entrance to the cave on Igrčevo (643 m.a.s.l.) above Črna in Koroškem, where the underground cycling route begins. The exit from the cave is in another valley - Breg pri Mežica. From there, you will go down about 2 km to the mining museum in Mežica, where you will hand in the borrowed equipment, wash your bikes and see many collections in the museum. Mining Museum Many collections are presented in the museum building: an ethnological collection - a display of the living culture of the Mežiška miners, a collection of ores, minerals and fossils, a caveman room and a collection of photographs by naturalist photographer Maks Kunac. Working hours in winter from 01.12.2013 to 31.03.2014 can only be viewed with prior notice. A tour of the mine for announced groups of over 10 people is possible at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Viewing the mine by bicycle and kayaks is only possible with prior notice!
