In the Straw Museum in the middle of Domžal, you can see the permanent exhibition 300 years of straw making in Domžal, where you will learn everything about the handicraft activity that marked Domžale so strongly. The museum presents typical Domžale straw hats, the tools with which they were made, production processes and stories related to the straw-making past. The Straw Museum protects and keeps the collection and acquires new documents and exhibits and imparts knowledge of straw-making skills. At the same time, it is a place where people meet who recognize the value in the preserved heritage of straw-making and feel that this is a common and important element that strengthens our local and national identity. You can buy straws, books and other products in the museum shop. For school groups, they prepare themed guidance with experience-creative workshops. The museum is also the venue for various events and other exhibitions. Meetings under strawmen and the June straw fair are connected with the basic theme of the museum. 300 years of straw making in Slovenia is a living exhibition that spreads behavior and knowledge and arouses and strengthens awareness of our straw-making heritage. The permanent exhibition presents a selection of more than 700 objects, reproductions of photographs and documents, and more than a hundred straws, which differ both in age and shape, size, purpose, method of manufacture, color, material and width of the whales. Visitors are offered a presentation and learning to weave straw bales and sew straws.
