The Slovenian School Museum in Ljubljana is one of the oldest museums in Slovenia. Among the museums that deal with special or special areas of human creation, especially the oldest. Since it was not territorially bound to the administrative division of the time in its operation when it was founded in 1898, such as the older regional museum in Ljubljana (1821) or the city museums in Celje (1882) and Ptuj (1893), it is also the first All-Slovenian museum. With the organization of exhibitions of school lessons, during which the idea of establishing a school museum grew, interest in the study of the past of education and pedagogy in the entire Slovenian national territory appeared among Slovenian teachers even before its establishment. In the museum, the permanent exhibition Education in Slovenia through the centuries until 1991 is on display. Every year, several thematic exhibitions in the field of school and school history are prepared, and each exhibition is also accompanied by rich exhibition catalogs (so far 86). A specially adapted classroom from the end of the 19th century is also on display. The Slovenian School Museum publishes the professional magazine Šolska kronika - a magazine for the history of education and education (independently since 1992), the only Slovenian magazine that deals with the history and traditions of Slovenian teachers, teachers' associations and Slovenian education in general. The museum's fundamental plan from 1938 (collecting material on the history of folk, middle-class and secondary schools in Slovenia) was supplemented in 1951. By dividing the museum into three sections: an exhibition collection, a pedagogical library and an archive with documentation, is The museum got its long-term content and organizational form, as it covered the study of all educational institutions. On the basis of the collected documentation, which is systematically supplemented for all schools on the Slovenian ethnic territory, in 1960 the museum was awarded the title "documentation center for the history of education". With this, the museum also got a separate department for documentation and specifically for the archive collection. On the centenary of its founding, the museum kept the work plan from tens of years ago, but its work became even more diverse. The museum is also increasingly dedicated to pedagogical activities (as with the lesson: "My Grandmother's School"). During the period of 100 years of development, the Slovenian School Museum has collected an extensive collection of museum objects and museum material on the history of education and pedagogy in Slovenia. The museum's professionals are now not only engaged in collecting and protecting museums, but also professionally studying and exhibiting them, and they also work in the field of school history through research. Among the individual groups of museum objects and other materials, special collections of black and golden books, notebooks, certificates, school lessons, annual school reports, stereoscopic school pictures, photo librarys of school buildings and school classes, school equipment are particularly interesting in the museum (school desks, chairs, boards), teaching aids for writing, etc.
