Rogatec, sandwiched between Donačka gora and the river Sotla, has always attracted people and also preserved the valuable stories that the nature and culture of the local inhabitants wrote down over thousands of years.

The story of the flourishing medieval square is told by the preserved core of Trieste with as many as two churches of the Styrian Baroque, the castle ruins from the 12th century and the Renaissance Baroque mansion Strmol from the 15th century. Today, new contents bring the pulse of life back to the Strmol mansion: concerts, social and business meetings, wedding ceremonies, picturesque exhibitions - museum and art, and the varied catering offer of the Strmol Castle Restaurant. Stories from the life between nobles and farmers continue in an open-air museum - the visitor experiences and co-creates them: he helps knead the dough and bakes his bread, he learns the simple steps of an already forgotten folk dance, weaves a bracelet from Ličja or on a weaving comb and looks under the fingers of a skilled blacksmith. Handicrafts are also for sale in the museum shop. The historical Styrian farm of the sub-Pannonian type in the Rogatec Open Air Museum preserves the folk architectural heritage and cultural tradition of the inhabitants of Obsotelje.

Even today, we live here proud and warm-hearted people who, together with visitors, are looking for answers to the present in our rich tradition of the past.
