True luxury is hidden in the pools of the rivers Vipava and Hublje and in the depths of the only lake, Vogršček. Many interesting species of fish live here, which fishermen can take home after catching or release them into the water. Slovenian fishermen strive to get as many fish as possible back into the water and thus preserve the extraordinary wealth of rivers. Wine and cuisine This beautiful part of the world was created for the vine. A long time ago, tectonic movements shaped the valley with hills and rugged slopes and gave it just the right soil composition. An interesting mixing of climatic influences has created unique climatic conditions. When vines were first planted in these places about two thousand years ago, they succeeded and survived. Today, the Vipava Valley is an extremely attractive wine country that fascinates with its many specialties and top quality wines. On the Vipava hills and on the slopes of the valley, sometimes also at slightly higher altitudes, there are well-kept terraces with vineyards. The vines are planted in even species, which together with the terraces create a recognizable landscape pattern. The vineyards are mostly small. Typical Vipava farms have their vineyards scattered in several locations, which contributes to the diversity of the crop. These are family farms where tradition is passed down from generation to generation. The rich viticulture and winemaking tradition is complemented by modern production methods and thus create excellent wines that inspire connoisseurs and wine lovers at home and around the world. The real value of the Vipava Valley is its wine temples, the most important part of every farm building for centuries. As a rule, stone arched temples are built underground, where the conditions for storing wine are just right all year round.
