Ukanc lies in the area of the Triglav National Park on the western shore of Lake Bohinj. According to legend, the name Ukanc was derived from the phrase "u konc", which is said to mean at the end of the world, as people in the past believed that the world ends under nearby Komarča.

Bohinj and the Triglav National Park offer a range of summer and winter activities in their surroundings.

Summer activities:

• Hiking and mountaineering: easy walks through Poljane and through Bohinj villages, visits to the Mostnica canyon, the Savica waterfall, Vodnik's viewpoint, and walks by the lake are possible. However, it is possible to climb higher from Bohinj to the mountains, to Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia, and to each one in a multitude of beautiful peaks of the Julian Alps that surround the basin.
• Cycling: It is possible to rent bicycles at the guest house,
• Adrenaline sports: canyoning, hydrospeed, kayaking, canoeing, rafting...

• riding horses on a Mrcina ranch in nearby Studor,
