About Us

The oldest historical record of the existence of the Hodoš settlement dates back to the 14th century, in the year 1331, when it is mentioned in connection with the local name Veliki Dolenci. In 1331, the settlement of Dolenci still had the Hungarian name Hodosfőszentmiklós (Santo Nicolao de Hudusfez). Hungarian names of streams are also recorded in this area. From 1391, Hodoš belonged to the lordship of the then landowner Güssing, under the name 'Prokrajina Őrség'. Regarding the origin of the name Krplivnik, they believe that it is of Slavic origin, the meaning of the word is associated with Krpliva or dill. In the Middle Ages, we can find information for Hodoš and Krplivnik exclusively when listing when donating or pledging property. The characteristics of Hodoš and Krplivnik within Őrseg were not only smaller forests, but also more numerous craft and trade activities. In the 17th century, tailors came into force instead of merchants. From the middle of the 16th century, pottery also appeared, a central characteristic of Őrség, which was always dealt with by one family between 1550 and 1848. They first tried to grow grapes on the steep slopes of Krplivnik, then on the gentle hills of Hodoš.

The hilly landscape, blessed with natural beauty, forests and wide fields, is part of the Goričko Landscape Park. Charming at any time of the year, it is an ideal place for all visitors eager to rest and disconnect, and it offers hiking and cycling lovers many hiking trails and unexplored, wildly overgrown trails.

The youth center is a tourist specialty, within which we rent out overnight capacities mainly to non-profit organizations that want to take advantage of the possibilities of tourism in the countryside and discover the almost untouched nature of the border area, feel the fresh air next to the forest away from the settlement and hear a beautiful voice chirping of different species of birds. 

The premises are prepared and equipped in a high standard. On the ground floor there are two rooms with six and one room with eight floor beds. There are specially set up toilets for boys and girls and two showers in each. The youth center also has a living room, a dining room for 48 people, a furnished kitchen and a special area for drinks. There are four rooms in the attic, two with a French bed, each room has a separate shower with a toilet. The total capacity of free beds is 28 people and 8 additional beds.

The youth center is an excellent starting point for exploring the surroundings or visiting local attractions, where you can go on foot, on two or four bikes. You can also reach the neighboring, Hungarian village of Szalafő along forest paths and marked tourist routes.
