Vinoteka Brda

Vinoteka Brda is a guest in the Renaissance castle in Dobrovo, in the vaulted cellar, where the wine of the Baguer counts once matured, we arranged a place for guided tastings with the presentation of the wine-growing region of Brdo, into the wide world of flavors of Briška wines You can also go independently.

We have almost 300 wines from 49 producers on the wine list, and with the friendly help of our staff, everyone will soon find the most suitable drop for their soul.

In Vinoteka Brda, we have collected the best that Brda has to offer, and we have added a selection of Slovenian cheeses and meats, so that getting to know the wine-growing Brda quickly grows into a unique experience of pleasures at a covered table.

History
Vinoteka Brda d.o.o. was created in the middle of 2000. The idea of a sales and promotion center was supported by the Municipality of Brda and a large part of the most important winemakers in Brda, and the choice of the basement of the castle in Dobrovo was self-evident.

Dobrovo is not only an administrative and commercial center, but is actually at the junction of all the Briška paths and thus in the heart of the Briška vineyards.

The castle is, of course, a story in itself, with a rich museum collection and a knight's hall, which often hosts consultations, concerts, recitals and other cultural and artistic events.

In the shelter of the thick stone walls that surround the castle cellar, there are the right conditions for a respectful knowledge of wine as a drink that tells us about tradition, about tradition, about people's attachment to this land, about the knowledge, how to use the natural gifts for production of exceptional wines.

Our vineyards
The Briška wine-growing region comprises 2,000 hectares of vineyards on the flysch hills on the right bank of the Soča River. Even 50 million years ago, this land was below sea level, and it is formed from thousands of tiny layers, which are the consequences of the underwater creep of silt and sand. Between these layers, quite a few shells remained trapped, which come to the surface again during deep plowing. There is little organic matter in the soil, so it is rich in salt and minerals, which the vines slowly pump and deposit into the grapes with their spreading roots.

The climate also gives the wine an important stamp, as it is here that the influences of the Mediterranean and the Alps mix. In this way, we produce wines with a rich body and prominent flowers, which are good young and fresh, but develop all their beauty only after several years of maturing in wooden barrels and fussing in bottles.

Viticulture has been known in these places since Celtic-Roman times, and the current selection of wine varieties was finally formed in the last century and especially after the attack of cane aphid (phylloxera), which in the second half of the XIX. century destroyed most of the vineyards of the time. Of the old varieties, rebula has been preserved to the greatest extent, which is rightly considered an autochthonous variety from Bri.

The oldest mention of rebula is in the sales contract from 1336, the (Furland) Tokaj has a slightly shorter homeland, and Verduc and Picolit have been in our region for a long time, but they are marginal varieties. In the past, red ribula or cupcake was also very popular, but today it is not grown by anyone in our wine-growing region. Most of us remain loyal to the production of varietal wines, but more and more wine cellars are preparing one or two varieties as the most noble part of their wine offer.
