Kasarna

The barracks is a late-baroque building from the end of the 18th century. It is one of the oldest preserved examples of shared workers' apartments in our country. The iron-making families lived in it until 1983. In 1985, the barracks was protected as a cultural monument, which was restored in 2005 by the Municipality of Jesenice under the leadership of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Kranj. Today, the Jesenice Music School and the Gornjesava Museum of Jesenice are here. Visitors can see the permanent ethnological exhibition Residential Cultural and the way of life of iron-making families with the reconstruction of the former workers' apartment. In the barracks, among the archival and photographic material, we keep the archive of the Carniola Industry Society and photos of Železarna Jesenice.
