Gorje or Gorjanski Kot is understood as a group of villages and hamlets, some 5 kilometers from Bled in the direction of Pokljuka, the Radovna and Mežakla valleys. The Gorjan area stretches from the edge of Bledski Kot at an altitude of 603 m to Mali Triglav 2700 m above sea level.
The municipality of Gorje measures 119.27 km2 and has 2,935 inhabitants. It borders Bled, Bohinjska Bela, Jesenice, Kranjska Gora, Bohinj. The name Gorje means that these places are "up" high. Gorjan villages are the last major villages below Triglav. The names of the villages are old and were mainly based on the names of the surrounding hills. The village of Višelnica is called that because it is higher than the center, Zatrat, because it is behind Trata, Poljšica, because it is behind Polje, Podhom, because it is under the hill of Hom, Krnica, because it lies in a typical glacial form of Krnica.
Gorje in total comprising 11 villages, in addition to the following: Zgornje Gorje, which is considered a kind of center of Gori, in which they are located: kindergarten, rectory, cemetery, post office, elementary school, Gorjanski dom, shops,... The following are the following Spodnje Gorje, which are the largest in terms of area and number of inhabitants, Mevkuž, Radovna, Perniki, Spodnje Laze, Zgornje Laze and Grabče.
The oldest proven settlement in Gorje belongs to the Early Stone Age. Archaeologists found stone tools in the cave above Poljšica, which we call the church in Poglej.
